Is it worth buying a hardshell case for 16 inch Macbook pro (A2780)? Will there be any negative implications upon using one?

The 16 inch MacBook Pro already comes in a hardshell case (aluminum) whose purpose is heat dissipation in addition to the fans. Put a hardshell case on it and you block that additional heat transfer through the aluminum, and if not careful, even block the fan ports. That can shorten the life of the Mac, or lead to other service issues that will cost you far in excess of the hard shell case.
I have a 16-in MBP M1 Pro here with no external case on it. I have had it for 16 months and there are no scratches or dents on the case because I take care of my hardware, and I use a properly padded computer backpack when leaving the house.

I don't use such cases either. I have used a padded sleeve when carrying my Macbook Pro 13" in my backback. The case looks virtually new. And that computer will be ten years old this summer!
My soft case is similar to this one but without the external pocket:
Nothing fancy, but it has served well.
