How do I connect my Xbox One Controller (pre-2016 bluetooth-less) to my M2 Macbook Pro?

Hi,

I have an xbox one controller that doesnt have bluetooth capabilities and therefore cannot connect it with my Mac. Im wanting to play games on steam when i travel but dont want to have to splash £60 on a new bluetooth controller.

I am connecting it with a MicroUSB to USB cable and through a femUSB to maleUSB-C adapter and almost nothing happens. The controller Vibrates to signal that its charging I believe but no light comes on and the controller doesnt work.

Please help.
