macOS 12.6.4 External Displays
I updated a MacBook Air (M2, 2022) from 12.6.3 to 12.6.4 and now I cannot get any external display to detect via a HDMI dongle or USB-C dock. Anyone have a fix?

Happened to me as well. After changing out HDMI cables, dongles, and displays, I found the solution: in System Preferences -> Displays you have to toggle between Default for Display and Scaled. After doing so the external monitor should appear.
Sometimes this has to be done even after the computer goes to sleep/the lid is closed.
Sometimes the resolution of the external monitor defaults to a lower resolution and you have to repeat the process.
Unplug the power on the monitor(s) give it a few minutes to completely discharge the monitor circuitry. Then plug the monitor(s) back in and re-connect to the Mac. Also unplug the docking station for a bit as well. Check if your docking station has a firmware update from the manufacturers website.
The projection system works with another MPB and a Windows 11 laptop. I’ve see a few other posts online regarding this particular update and issue.
i went ahead and upgraded to Ventura. This has fixed the issue for me, but too bad the Monterey update had this issue.
