M1 macbook pro 14 screen flashes black du… - Apple Community
Turning off Filevault does not completely resolve the issue - but it seems connected. I have not tried resetting NVRAM because I'm on an M1 and because that is supposed to be done every time you reboot, anyways. Did a factory reset though - no change. I never had the issue until this update to Ventura. I ran Monterrey and then Ventura 13-13.2.1 without any difficulty. It seems this has been a bug for awhile? My understanding is the screen goes black to prevent anything malicious from loading or anything corrupted from loading. So I thought maybe the update was corrupt or maybe the reinstall made it worse for me - which is why I went to the last resort factory reset. Only thing I can say is when I got the update it stalled at 5 minutes to go. I redownloaded the update - at least I thought I did. Maybe a reupdate from the Macstore would work? Guessing if redownloading the OS doesn't work, that won't either. But if you try it and it works, let us know. Not sure - so tired of trying things at this point.
