Spotlight Indexing on External Disk

Can someone help me solve this problem? Running High Sierra on Mac Mini. I've got a Seagate 5TB external drive that seems to be stuck in a process that I can't kill. Checking the Seagate's processes using Terminal shows that Spotlight seems to be trying to update its index for the Seagate. But its been doing in that for about 3 days. When I try to kill the process in Terminal using the PID, the process just restarts with a new PID. I've also opened Spotlight preferences and dragged the Seagate drive into the "privacy window" and restarted the machine and Seagate. No change. Whatever I do, as soon as I restart the Seagate, Spotlight goes right back to work. I've been used this Seagate for several years without trouble, and I do want Spotlight to index it, but this seemingly stuck process has never occured before. The only new circumstance that I can think of is that I did have a power outage around the time this problem began. Anyone? Thanks.
