iMessage photos will not delete in iPhone

I cannot delete messages. I've tried all the various methods described on the web but have no success. Selecting the sender, and then scrolling down, select all, then tick and delete appears to work but then the photos reappear. There are no solutions on the web anywhere to solve this problem. I've also gone into settings, general, storage, messages and tried to do delete all photos and videos but have the same result. They look like they're deleted but then reappear as soon as you leave the screen. Please help! I'm trying to free up space on my phone.

Hello courriel99,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are unable to delete messages and photos in the Messages app on your iPhone. If you haven't already, please follow these steps as these are recommended when an app isn't working as expected:

"If an app on your iPhone or iPad doesn't work as expected, try this.

Close and reopen the app
Force the app to close. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

Restart your device
Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

Check for updates
To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your iPhone or iPad."

And those steps are from here: If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support

Once you do those steps, then try going into the Messages app and delete what you want: Delete messages on iPhone - Apple Support

Cheers!
