Hey Lordpimpinstein,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

What you're experiencing may be related to auto-brightness being on. "When auto-brightness is on, you'll notice that the brightness slider on your device moves according to changing light conditions."

Follow the steps below to see if auto-brightness is enabled. If it is, disable it and see if that helps.

  1. "In the Settings app, tap Accessibility.
  2. Tap Display & Text Size.
  3. Scroll to Auto-Brightness and tap to turn the feature on or off.

If you think your screen brightness isn't adapting correctly, try to turn off auto-brightness and then turn it back on."

You can also see the information in this article: Adjust the brightness and color temperature on your iPhone or iPad.

Another reason the iPad would dim is if the interior temperature of it goes beyond the normal operating temperatures. For more information, review this link: If your iPhone or iPad gets too hot or too cold.

Take care.
