iPhone stuck on Apple logo, cannot update through iTunes

My phone froze after I tried to download Microsoft Word and after restarting it it got caught in a loop where the Apple logo would be on screen, randomly turn black then go back to the logo. I've tried fixing it through recovery mode and iTunes on my laptop but after a few minutes of the loading screen iTunes says "The iPhone cannot be updated. Unknown error occured (1110)". The only option left that I can find is to reset my phone to factory settings but it would get rid of a lot of uni work so if there's anything else I can do I would appreciate the help!
