I went to "Library" and deleted all the Safari folders. Even then it took another half hour or so for Safari to work again. Maybe it was malware. But It is working now.

The problem was that Safari wasn't even opening all the way. It would start up half way, without the favourites bar and then freeze.

Quit the Safari app if it is open. To do that click and hold the Safari icon in the Dock and choose Quit from the menu that appears.



Then, press and hold a Shift key while launching Safari again. That action opens Safari in windowed mode (not full screen) without opening its previously opened windows or tabs.


Release the Shift key when the Safari window opens.
