Performance on second monitor is slow - 16' MBP M1Max

Hello everyone,

I have noticed a weird issue with my 2021 MacBook Pro 16' Model, when I have it connected to an external monitor.

I use a software called Photomechanic to browse through large amounts of images and make selects before editing them in Adobe Lightroom. When I have the Photomechanic window open on my external screen, the performance is much slower than having it open on the laptop screen. In one particulary folder, it will freeze when opened on the external monitor.

Same goes for Lightroom, if the window is open on the MacBook screen, the whole software is just snappier.

Here is what I am using:

2021 16' MBP

M1 Max

32 GB Ram

Version 13.2.1 (22D68)

The Monitor is a LG 27UD88-W connected via USB-C.

I just spoke to a friend who is experiencing similar issues (his MBP has 64GB of Ram and he has a different screen).

Maybe someone has had similar issues and can assist?

Thanks in advance!

Greetings

Marius

Hello Mariusfpm,

Thanks for choosing the Apple Support Communities. We understand you are noticing performance issues with apps on your second monitor.

This may be caused by a slower refresh rate on the secondary monitor. Have you checked into that to see what your monitor specs are?

Another thing we can try is start to safe mode and see if the same issue occurs. This will rule out the possibility of other apps being the cause. Here is how: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Because it is relevant despite it only happening on one monitor, these steps may also help resolve the issue: If your Mac runs slowly - Apple Support

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
