I purchased a AirTag last summer I lost my iPhone in the river want to use AirTag on a new phone how do I go about disconnecting to reconnect to new phone

You must sign in with the same Apple ID that your AirTag is associated with on your new iPhone. Once you're signed in, you can disconnect your AirTag and then connect it with a new Apple ID.
