airpods show last location in garbage dump

so at the beginning of february my gf purchased a pair of airpods pro 2nd gen. they went missing about a week ago and it shows they were last used or opened on Wednesday, March 15th, 12:06pm. the location where they’re at is literally my city’s garbage dump. is this location accurate? we’ve looked everywhere for them. would this mean that they would’ve connected to someone’s phone at the landfill and that’s why they’re showing the location there? did someone swipe them or were they truly destroyed in the trash dump? i thought that they only show the last location that your phones bluetooth was connected to them. and is there anything i can do about this?
