Siri text not on screen when connected to car

My phone (iPhone 12pro max) is in a holder on my dashboard and connected to my car via Bluetooth (not CarPlay).

When I ask Siri to “tell Rebecca it’s time to go to work”, the iPhone used to show that message on screen whilst the Siri voice repeated it to me.

Since an iOS update over the past year or so, it no longer shows the text on screen and Only repeats the message via the Siri voice.

I find this really frustrating as it often misunderstands a word, and when I listen to Siri speaking, I also assume it’s saying the word I meant.

Then when I check the message after I get out the car, I find that Siri has misunderstood what I said and used incorrect words.

How can I get Siri to still display text on screen whilst connected to the car via Bluetooth? Thanks.

iPhone 12 Pro Max, iOS 16

Hi thefoxarea,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

We understand that Siri is not reading back the text you provided and also not understanding correct commands. If you have restarted and updated to the latest software version for the most recent performance fixes, try disabling and re-enabling "Hey Siri".

Set up Siri to recognize your voice
1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap Siri & Search.
3. Turn off Listen for "Hey Siri," then turn it back on.
4. When the Set Up "Hey Siri" screen appears, tap Continue.
5. Say each command that you see on your screen.
6. Tap Done.

You can find these steps in If "Hey Siri" isn't working on your iPhone - Apple Support.

Contact Apple Support if this behavior continues for them to investigate for a solution.
