MLS Season Pass.. can it not play on AppleTV 3rd Generation?

We have MLS Season Pass and we can successfully watch the soccer games on iPhone, iPad, and the AppleTV app on the Sony TV that is barely a year old.

On the older TV, we have HDMI cable to the AppleTV 3rd generation, which appears to have tvOS 7.9, and the software is up-to-date.

it appears that MLS Season Pass requires tvOS 16.2 and higher (https://www.mlssoccer.com/season-pass/).

We can AirPlay from iPhone and iPad to the Apple TV device, but canNOT find MLS Season Pass anywhere on the AppleTV 3rd generation device.

Is it possible to use the silver AppleTV remote to play the game on the AppleTV device? Or can we only play on it via AirPlay?

Correct, and that excludes the Apple TV (3rd generation) [A1427, A1469] at software version 7.9.

It’s not about the remote per se. Unfortunately the legacy model Apple TV box is not supported directly for this new service. Fortunately you were able to use AirPlay.

Might you happen to know why/what it is about the 3rd gen Apple TV that cannot/does not support tvOS 16.2?
