Notes only syncing in one direction.

When I change notes on my macbook it immediately syncs with my iphone. But in the other direction nothing happens. How can I fix this because I use notes every day on both devices and things are getting messy.

Hello GielS,

Is the iPhone connected to cellular data or Wi-Fi when trying to sync content? To help rule out the current connection it can help to try the other type, if possible. For example, if it's currently on cellular data, try connecting it to a strong Wi-Fi network. If it's already connected to Wi-Fi you may try disabling that to allow it to try over cellular data, or try switching to another reliable Wi-Fi network.

Be sure to also check and see if there are any iOS updates, as that'll ensure it's using the latest improvements:

  1. Tap on Settings
  2. Navigate to General
  3. Choose Software Update

If needed, this page can help with the update process: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

In the iPhone's Notes app, check and see if the note being edited/created is listed in the iCloud section as well, or if it only shows in 'On My iPhone.'

Cheers.

Thanks for the comment.

I tried on both wifi and cellular data. And none are working.

Both devices are up to date.

When I open notes on my phone, all notes are in the 'all icloud' folder. But when I open icloud on my macbook and then go to notes, they're not all there.

I can't seem to find any logic in this but it's getting annoying because I have notes now that have half the info on my phone and half on my macbook...

GielS,

Thanks for letting us know. Next, what happens when you Sign in and use iCloud.com to create a new note? For example, when you do that, does the note appear on your iPhone, Mac, or both?

a

We recommend this step because it helps to isolate further so that we can find the root cause of your notes not syncing.

Also, please check the link below to ensure all steps we're followed.

Keep your notes up to date and share them with iCloud

To perform the recommended troubleshooting steps via the link above, complete the steps in the section titled "Access the same notes on all your devices."

When you set up iCloud for Notes, your notes are stored in the cloud instead of locally on your device. You can see them on any device that’s set up for iCloud and Notes, including your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac. You can also access your iCloud notes in a web browser.
Because your notes are in the cloud, changes you make on one device—like creating a new note, deleting a note, or editing the text—automatically appear on all your devices. You see the most up-to-date version of your notes, no matter where you access them.

Please let us know the outcome after giving the above steps a try.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!

A little extra info.

As I said: if I go to icloud on my macbook they're not all there, but it's basically the same as in notes on my macbook.

So; I assume that my iphone is not really connecting to Icloud? On the other hand, if I make a new note on my macbook it's immediately on my phone too. But if I then delete it on my phone, it's not deleting on my macbook...

Ok

So I made a new note on my macbook and then it synced on Icloud and iphone and I changed it on both Icloud and iphone and it all synced perfectly on all three

I did the same on my Iphone and then on Icloud and macbook.

And the same on Icloud and then changed it on macbook and iphone.

It ALL synced on all three, every time...

So basically all notes I made the last few weeks on my phone still don't sync on my macbook or iCloud. But in theory they should...

Also some folders and notes I changed from one folder to another in the past weeks/months haven't synced to my macbook or Icloud.

If I change these or add new notes to those folders they don't appear on iCloud or Macbook.

Also notes in existing folders don't seem to sync.

So it's only in the folder 'all iCloud' that everything syncs. When I change or make notes in other folders the test fails.

I'm just confused at this point...
