Photo duplicates found by iPhone don't match the duplicates found by MacBook Pro with Ventura. The phone finds more

How to get my Macbook Pro to find all the Duplicates in Photos that my iPhone finds. (Both have up to date OS's). Both are synched thru iCloud??? I have been waiting ~3 weeks for the Mac to catch up and so far it has found nothing, except one pair of duplicates I made intentionally as a test.

Hi mickfromlewisville,

We appreciate you following up and sharing these details with us.

If your Mac doesn't see the duplicate photos in your Photo Library, you can use the Photos Repair Library tool after you create a backup of your Mac then search for duplicates again. This article will guide you through the complete process: How to use the Photos Repair Library tool on your Mac - Apple Support

"If your Photos library won't open or if the Photos app behaves unexpectedly on your Mac, the Photos Repair Library tool might help.

Before you use the Photos Repair Library tool, back up your photo library. You can use Time Machine, use a third-party backup solution, or copy the library to an external drive. By default, your photo library is stored in the Pictures folder within your home folder.

To get to the Photos Repair Library tool on your Mac, follow these steps:

  1. If Photos is open, close the app. Then, while you click to open Photos, hold down the Command and Option keys at the same time.
  2. In the window that opens, click Repair to start the repair process. You might be asked to enter your user account password.

The Repair Library tool analyzes the library's database and repairs any inconsistencies it detects. Depending on the size of your library, the repairs might take some time. When the process is done, Photos opens the library.

If you repair a library that's used with iCloud Photos, iCloud checks the library after the repair process completes to ensure everything is synced correctly.

If these steps don't work or you can't open the repair tool, contact Apple Support."

If you're still unable to locate duplicate photos, you may consider reaching out to Apple directly to have them investigate this further with you. You can find their contact details via the link above.

Kind regards.

Hello mickfromlewisville,

To find duplicate photos in the Photos app on your Mac, follow the steps below.

  1. "In the Photos app  on your Mac, click Duplicates in the sidebar.
  2. Select the duplicates you want to merge.
  3. You can select individual items in a single row and merge them or select multiple rows of duplicates and merge them all at once. A single original photo or video is kept from the selection in a row and other duplicates are deleted.

The Photos window showing Duplicates selected in the sidebar and duplicate photos side by side on the right.

3. Click Merge [number] Duplicates.

4. One original photo or video appears where the selected duplicates were located in your library. Deleted duplicates appear in the Recently Deleted album where you can recover or permanently delete them."

Sorry, but this response doesn't address the issue. The issue is that my Mac is not detecting duplicates; and I know there are some because my iPhone does detect and show them in the Duplicates album. This is strange to me, because both devices are synched via iCloud. So first question is why doesn't the Mac find the duplicates that the iPhone does? The second is, why are both devices not showing the same duplicates, since they are synched???

The response provided is good for what to do once duplicates are found.
