When I click on Users & Groups in Ventura Settings nothing happens. It stays on the screen from the previous choice. What I really want to do is turn off the stupid password every time I start my Mac. Any way to turn this off without access to Users & Groups??
If you're not sure if you truly started in safemode, try it again. After you've held the power button and then see the startup disk icon, when you press the shift key, the text under the disk icon changes to say startup in safe mode. Then when you log in with your password, in the upper right corner of the screen, it should say Safe Mode in red text.

I don't understand. When you go to System Settings, then Users & Groups, are you saying it's blank? Or do you see something similar to this below? If so, Choose and account next to "Automatically Login As".

I tried this, nothing happened. It asked what startup disk to use, I selected, then it never gave me an option to 'continue in safe mode.' It seems to have just been a regular startup. I'm unbelievably frustrated. I just set up this machine yesterday and so many things don't work! Messages, Contacts, Autofill, even the App Store - none of it opens!! They all say 'application not responding.'
You have to follow those instructions on Safe Boot. The step you missed is likely holding the shift key before and while you click on the startup disk. But I agree that accessing Customer Support is likely to be your most beneficial next step.

This only applies to Intel Macs. Apple Silicon Macs access Safe Mode differently by booting to the special startup menu by holding the power/touchID button.
Partially correct. Referring to Apple Silicon, Yes you must hold the power button to access the special screen BUT you must also press the shift key before and while clicking on the startup disk to see the option to start in safe mode. Unless I'm misunderstanding your comment.
So I pressed/held the power button. I got a screen with Mac HD & something else on it. I held down the shift key and clicked Mac HD. It restarted. I entered my password. Nowhere did it ask me if I wanted to start in safe mode. Nothing is different on restart. Messages, App Store, Contacts, Autofill - none will even open. Users & Groups still doesn't show up. WHAT am I doing wrong?? I'll call Apple at some point (I don't like calling any support places).
Try booting into Safe Mode then restart normally.

Sometimes that will fix anomalies.
When I select Users & Groups absolutely nothing happens...it stays on whatever screen it was already on in settings.
If this is a new Mac you just set up yesterday you do have free 90 day phone support. You might want to take advantage of it.
