Hi Tammy…thank you for confirming what I had assumed as the best option. However, leaving a chat group shouldn’t be dictated by the nature if the participants’ system landscape, but the user’s independent desire to leave without seeking anyone’s permission. Not sure why Apple in it’s infinite wisdom has denied users that option. Aren’t users supposed to control their destinies and not Apple? Who gave Apple that power?

That’s an absolutely unacceptable and a rather demeaning comment. Where’s the harm in pointing out a deficiency and asking for it to be corrected. Hopefully you are not an Apple employee and if you are, i don’t think it places you any higher pedestal than the end-user. What a snobbish bunch you lot are!

Thank you for the response, Tammy. However, your steps don’t work when the group consists of a mixture of Apple and non-Apple users. That ‘leave the chat’ option doesn’t show up. I am afraid it’s a deficiency that Apple’s development team needa to fix.

To leave a group text, everyone needs to be using iMessage, which is an Apple feature. Not sure if you're using iMessage or SMS/MMS? Learn the difference between iMessage and SMS/MMS.

How to leave a group text message

1. Tap the group text message that you want to leave.

2. Tap the group icons at the top of the thread.

3. Scroll down and tap Leave this Conversation. If you're on iOS 14 or earlier, tap the Info button , then tap Leave this Conversation.

If you’re in a group with both Apple and Non-Apple users, then you’re in a SMS/MMS group. Not iMessage group.

Therefore, the only way to leave the group is to ask the person who created the group to make a new one, and exclude you from it.

There isn’t any harm in pointing out a deficiency and asking for it to be correct. It’s helpful to everyone actually.
