MacMini Won't wake up

Prior to Ventura 13.2.1 update, I fixed this issue by changing power to never sleep. Once at the login screen, I could select option to put monitors to sleep & all would wake just fine.

Ventura update has started this headache all over again. Can "Lock Screen", but neither keyboard or mouse will respond. The login "icons" are moving around, almost as if the keyboard & mouse aren't plugged in. Have tried reseating both multiple times but can only get Mac mini to respond to keyboard or mouse by hard killing (holding power button until it cuts off & restarting).

Under this Ventura update the options to keep system 'awake' isn't available as it was in previous version. Under energy saver, can only put hard disk to sleep when possible, wake for network access, enable Power Nap, and start up automatically after a power failure. Is there another option that has been added to care for this issue? This has been a problem with MAC OS for years & cannot believe they just ignored it.

Hello EirualMac,

We'd like to provide you with a few steps that may be able to assist you with waking your Mac from sleep as expected:

"Check your system’s sleep settings

Make sure the sleep settings are set the way you want.

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Lock Screen  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. To set the amount of time that should pass before your computer goes to sleep, do one of the following:
    • Click the “Turn display off on battery when inactive” pop-up menu on the right, then choose an option.
    • Click the “Turn display off on power adapter when inactive” pop-up menu on the right, then choose an option.

You can also turn off “Prevent automatic sleeping on power adapter when the display is off” in Displays settings.

Check the software or SMC

  • Update macOS: Certain software issues can be resolved by keeping your software up to date. See the Apple Support article Update macOS on Mac.
  • Use safe mode: Safe mode can help you to determine whether an issue is caused by software that loads as your Mac starts up. See the Apple Support article How to use safe mode on your Mac.
  • Reset the SMC: Resetting the system management controller (SMC) can resolve certain issues related to power. If you have a Mac with Apple silicon, just restart your computer. For other Mac computers, see the Apple Support article Reset the SMC of your Mac."

Hey there EirualMac,

Does this issue occur in safe mode or a new user account? Test to verify as this can help isolate the issue and let us know if this is occurring due to a setting or login item. The following links can guide you on how to do both of these:

Start up your Mac in safe mode

Add a user or group on Mac

Get back to us with the results.

Regards.
