Pictures won’t open in Message app

For over 1 week now I cannot open pictures when they are sent through iMessage. They show up as below. I cannot download these or view these. Normally when I get a picture sent I see it straight away and no downloading is necessary. Looking further back on the same message all my pics/photos are now the same. They look like the below screenshot and these images were sent tonight to me. I notice loads of other people are having the same problem. I tried using just 5G and just wi-fi and still the same. I have tried the replies to other posts like turning iMessage on and off and it is still the same. Surely this is something to do with Apple as all wax fine last Monday (6th Mar) as I got pics then and now all I get the the below. Any help would be grateful or even a solution from Apple would be good as I am now having to use Facebook messenger to send pics and photos to people as I can’t use iMessage.

Have you tried a different Wi-Fi network or your cellular network to see if the issue persists? If it does you can try restarting the device as that can clear up some minor software issues. You'll also want to make sure that you're running the latest iOS version on your device when possible. You can lean how to update here:


"Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install."
