Thunderbolt dropping my Apollo Twin MK3

Recently purchased MBP M1 Max 16inch and having issues with my Apollo audio interface dropping on Thunderbolt.

Sometimes it will stay connected for hours without issue. Other times it is every 20 minutes or so. There will be a subtle, high-pitched fading wine in the speakers right before the connection fails. Resetting the Apollo or plugging/unplugging will reconnect.

I followed all of Apollo's steps to make sure that it runs properly with Apple Silicon. Running Thunderbolt 2 into machine with Apple cable into Apple adapter for TB4 and have replaced both with brand new ones to make sure that it isn't a cable issue.

I dropped back to my MBP 2015 and it is accepting the Apollo w/o issue so I'm assuming that there is some kind of problem with the newer model, Apple silicon, or TB2 - TB4 connection.

This is a vital piece of gear for me, so if anyone has a tip on fixing this issue, I'd be super grateful!

Hello Staxxamileon,

Let's use the steps below to boot your MacBook Pro into safe mode to see if that behavior persists from there:

1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

You can also find those steps in this resource: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

It can take a few extra minutes to boot into safe mode. Your screen may flash or flicker while in safe mode. Those behaviors are expected. Testing in safe mode runs a check on your disk, removes some cached files, and can help isolate conflicts with startup items. Once you've tested that behavior in safe mode, you can restart to leave safe mode.

Should that still continue, do you have access to any other Thunderbolt devices? If so, are they working as expected with your new MacBook Pro?

Let us know, and we'll keep moving forward based on your results.
