I am unable to burn a video project from Final Cut Pro into my ASUS slim dvd-rw. The 'Share' menu does not identify ASUS as a designated site. It gives me Desktop, Downloads, Documents, etc. In frustration I tried 'Desktop' as a designation. After the icon appeared on Desktop it gave me a notification 'Disc Image Invalid'.
Until now I have had no problem doing a burn on my external ASUS device.
Can someone please help me?
I am glad you worked it out.It seems that all you needed to do was select the actual DVD burner instead of "Hard Drive". I hope it works fine.
FWIW:
Back when I used to make DVD, I always exported to hard drive first.
The reasons were basically two:
1) It allows one to check, by opening the disk image and viewing the results in the DVD Player application on the mac, to see if everything is working as desired, without wasting a physical disc.
2) In case you want to make more than one copy, it is only necessary to export once, and then you can burn from the disk image as many copies as you want (and even archive the disk image in case you need to make more copies, or just for backup).
Are you trying to make a video DVD that you may play in a DVD player device?
You should do File->Share->DVD, then choose Device: Hard Drive to save a disk image file.
Is that what you are doing?
Sharing takes time, so be sure to let it finish - you can press Command-9 to see the progress.
When the disk image is finished, you can burn it to a physical DVD: control-click and choose Burn.
First of all Luis, thank you so much for responding to my problem.
Yes I am trying to make a DVD video to play in a dvd player. I have been doing DVD's for family and friends for at least the last ten years. Up until now i have been doing File>Share>DVD and then there was a direct burn to my ASUS for the disc.
For some reason it will not do a direct burn to ASUS as my chosen device. ASUS does not appear as a choice. It does show as the designated site device Hard Drive. So I decided to send it to my desktop via the Hard Drive. Yes it takes a while. After it let me know the process was completed I tried to burn the disc in the ASUS device. This message came up could not burn 'Disc Image Invalid'.
So my problem is that it is unable to burn in the usual way I do a burn and it also wouldn't burn via the Hard Drive.
One little clarification...the Hard Drive is shown as the place to save the disc image. Just as you said Luis.
The designated sites included desktop, documents, etc.....but there was no ASUS as the designated site.
I should let you know that I went into Share>DVD>Settings and up comes the ASUS designation! It was a little bit of luck. Hopefully my burn will work directly into the ASUS disc. It will save me the extra trip of going to the Hard Drive. Thank you for your interest Luis. Wish me luck!
Bummer! Although I got ASUS the burn still did take. So I have just come back from Staples with the high end discs. I have just started another burn.
That was great advice as to why a disc from hard drive is useful and economical. After I get this problem solved I will try your suggestion.
I chuckle over your comment about”back when I made DVDs’. I am an old romantic who loves to create hard copies that I can hold and have personalized jewel cases with!

I still could not do a burn. I tried your method Luis with high end DVDs. Bingo! It worked! It also did the burn a lot quicker. So thank you most sincerely for taking the time to help me.
