Mail cannot save information about your mailboxes because there isn’t enough space in your home folder. Quit mail and delete any files you don't need, then reopen Mail.

How can you delete emails from the back-end Hello all, Hope you're well! I disconnected all my mail accounts thinking it would free up the 18 Gig of mail on my hard drive, but the mail files are still taking up 18 GB even though I disconnected my mail accounts, so there are no emails visible in the inboxes, so my guess is I need to delete the 18GB of mail on the back-end somewhere. How can I delete the 18 GB of mail files? I'm using Mac OS Monterey 12.1.

Your Mac storage is too small for your current storage usage.

Internal storage upgrades can be expensive, but an iMac with either USB 3.x or with Thunderbolt can usually connect to external storage: Use an external SSD as your startup disk … - Apple Community

Moving your usage external is cheaper than replacing the iMac (with one having enough internal storage and memory), and prices for external SSD storage are dropping.

This doesn't mean Mail files. It refers to any files you may have downloaded, or photos, or movies, or any other un-needed files eating up your drive space.
