Email Photos as an attachment

I recently purchased a new Iphone 14 Pro. I purchased the pro because of its better picture-taking capabilities. However, I have had nothing but issues when I try to send pictures from my iphone to other devices. Specifically, when I attach a photo to an email it is embedded in the email in a large picture that is difficult to work with. I am not able to just attach the photo like I would any other type of document. I've tried saving the photo to files to then upload, but the same issue happens. The only way I have figured out how to properly email the picture is to log into my icloud account on my computer, download the image and then email the file from my computer. This is cumbersome and not always possible as I do not always have my computer with me. There has got to be a better way. How does one email a picture as a nonembedded attachment?

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 16

I have the same issue. When forwarding photos from the iphone mail app they used to send as attachments, with the option to resize for email, whereas now they send as embedded images contained within the body of the email. Not helpful. Does anyone know how to revert back to the old method and send as attachments.

I've tried opening a new email, and also adding the photos as an attahment but it won't allow me to go to the photo folder, only files. Any help appreciated.
