Books app won't allow 'Gift this Book' on Macbook

I open the books app, search the title, click the 3 dots, click GIFT THIS BOOK and get a pop up that says:

"GIFTING BOOKS - You can send this book as a gift from Apple Books on your iPhone, iPad or other Apple device."

Then an OK button and puts me right back. Isn't a Macbook Pro a Apple device?

Thoughts?

Hi KDJJ13,

welcome to the Apple (user-to-user) Community.

Wondering which Mac model (year), and which MacOS version you are using.

(Eg: older Mac OS versions may not have the newest Books app)

Maybe this Apple support article will help:

Apple Support article: Gift apps, music, movies and more from Apple

Eg: says:

Gifts are billed to your payment method, not to your Apple Account balance

article also says:

If there's an issue when you send a gift

  • The recipient of your gift must have an Apple ID in your country or region. For example, if you're in the United States, you can't send a gift to a friend who lives in Australia.
  • In some regions, you can't send gifts. Store availability also varies by country or region. Learn what's available in your country or region.
  • If you use Family Sharing and Ask To Buy is turned on for your account, you can't purchase gifts.
  • You can't gift individual songs on an iPhone or iPad. To send a song as a gift, use your Mac or PC.
  • You can't send apps, TV programs or films as a gift on a Mac or PC. To gift those items, use an iPhone or iPad.
  • You can't send a free app or item as a gift. But you can tap the Share button  or the arrow button  to share a link to the app or item.

Hope something here, (or in the article) will help:

All the best :-)
