Excessive packet loss between macbook air and wifi

Does anyone have insight to debugging and fixing the following slow network issue?

Hi, I have used PingPlotter to see why connecting to my blog or youtube is so frequently slow or stalled. I found out through their tool that I have a huge packet loss rate between the mac and wifi. The wifi is a spectrum-enabled Netgear AC1900 WiFi Cable Modem Router. My Macbook Air hardware overview is:

 Model Name: MacBook Air

 Model Identifier: MacBookAir9,1

Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Core i5

 Processor Speed: 1.1 GHz

 Number of Processors: 1

 Total Number of Cores: 4

L2 Cache (per Core): 512 KB

 L3 Cache: 6 MB

 Hyper-Threading Technology: Enabled

 Memory: 16 GB

System Firmware Version: 1916.80.2.0.0 (iBridge: 20.16.3045.0.0,0)

 Serial Number (system): FVFDG2WAM6KK

 Hardware UUID: F4394CCC-26D5-572D-892F-5FCC2CDB5FAF

 Provisioning UDID: F4394CCC-26D5-572D-892F-5FCC2CDB5FAF

 Activation Lock Status: Enabled

So far, I have tried resetting the router by unplugging for >30 seconds.

My other network devices don't have issues with wifi packet dropping that I can tell.

Hey johngoes,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you've narrowed this down to the connection between your Mac and the network. Is it only Internet-based apps that are experiencing issues or is there some overall slowness when it comes to your Mac? If it seems that you Mac is slow overall, perhaps the guidance from If your Mac runs slowly - Apple Support may help. For instance, there may be a storage issue or CPU usage for an app may be higher than expected. For your convenience, here are the tips from that article.

•Your computer’s startup disk may not have enough free disk space. To make disk space available, you can move files to another disk or an external storage device, then delete files you no longer need on the startup disk. macOS can also help you optimize storage by storing files in the cloud and helping you identify files you no longer need. Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click General in the sidebar (you may need to scroll down). Click Storage on the right, then click the storage recommendations you want to use.
• An app you’re using may require more memory than your Mac has easily available. You can use Activity Monitor to see how much memory your Mac and apps are using. See View memory usage in Activity Monitor. Also see the documentation that came with the app to find out its system requirements.
Quit any app that isn’t compatible with your Mac. For example, an app may require a different processor or graphics card. See the documentation that came with the app for information about its system requirements.
• To see what processor your computer has, choose Apple menu > System Settings, click General in the sidebar, then click About on the right.
• To see which graphics card your computer has, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click General in the sidebar. Click About on the right, then click System Report. Click Graphics/Displays to see the name of the graphics card installed your computer.
• Quit any apps you’re not using.
If you have problems with your disk, use Disk Utility to verify and try and fix any issues.

If this seems isolated to Wi-Fi or a particular Wi-Fi network, use the guidance from If your Mac isn't connecting to the internet over Wi-Fi - Apple Support which can help you narrow that down. For instance, if you use a VPN, try disabling that.

Check VPN or other security software
If you installed VPN or other software that monitors or interacts with your network connections, that software could be affecting access to the internet. Learn about network issues related to VPN and other software

Cheers!
