passcode failure

My apple watch series 8 has refused the passcode that has worked since I got the watch about 2 months ago. Can I change the passcode on my phone and get the watch to accept the new passcode?

Follow these steps:

If you forgot your Apple Watch passcode - Apple Support

Be sure to put your watch on its charger while you follow that procedure.
