Why have loads of songs disappeared from my ipod?

Hi. I've just bought a Macbook after years of using a Windows laptop, and have spent the last few days getting my Apple Music library correct. But suddenly, yesterday I think, loads of albums have disappeared from my iPod touch, without me actively syncing it or anything like that. I'm assuming it's something to do with Apple Music (which I am not subscribed to), but I have no idea what's happened!

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hey there ThomasJNewton,

Syncing your iPod touch with a different computer could have an impact on the music library. For instance, if the music library on your Mac is different than the one for iTunes on your PC, when you sync your iPod touch, it could remove content to match what’s on the Mac library. Take a look at this article for more details on how this works:

Use the Finder to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer

We hope this helps.

Take care.

Hi

So I synced the iPod, took hours. Eventually it finished and everything was on there. Then I turned off the Mac and went to play something. Immediately the song I was trying to play disappeared. Then loads of songs started disappearing. Hundreds and thousands of them, so all I’m left with is fragments of albums with hardly any cover art. The only stuff that’s completely intact is the albums I’ve downloaded from Apple.

Although you stated that you had not synchronised the iPod with the new iTunes Library when this problem first occurred, is sounds to me as though you possibly did. But if you haven't set Sync options between the iPod and the new Library, that might explain why only the music from the store is on the iPod, after having downloaded directly from the store.

So, check the Sync options between your computer and the iPod.

This too sounds as though you were playing music on your iPod that was stored on your computer, not on the iPod (don't know how though). Perhaps you were looking at the content of the iPod from your computer rather than directly on the iPod, I don't know.

Check your Sync options because if you are now using a different Library (on a different computer) that's what you need to do.
