back up iphone without its passcode

Hello, so I am locked out of my iphone. Can I start a back up onto icloud before I put my iphone on restore mode? I have not backed up in 4 months unfortunately.

You can't backup without the iPhone passcode.

I am so confused right now. I entered my passcode as usual and my iphone did not recognize it. could it be a glitch?
