no internet

No internet connection as of this morning. WiFi ok. Want to know if it’s the MacBook or the route/modem

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.6

My cable modem has 4 lights:

Power

Online

Voice

Battery

When the internet is out, the Online light is off. When it is on, the online connection is good, when blinking it is registering.

You can look in your manual, or look up your modem model online, to find out how to interpret the status lights on yours.

If you can't tell, shut down your Mac. Then cycle power on the router, then cycle power on the modem (if one combined modem/router, cycle power on the unit). Wait several minutes, then turn on your Mac. If still no internet, connect the Mac directly to the modem via an ethernet cable. If your modem/router are one combined unit, connect directly (via an ethernet cable) to the modem/router combination. Test again.

If your Mac is connecting with WiFi and nothing else has changed since it was working, the most likely causes are (1) internet outage or (2) modem/router failure. Cycling power may resolve it. If not, contact your internet provider for status, my internet provider can remotely see the modem and test it for proper function and connection.
