Fitness app and watch record calories far in excess of what I am burning
I am an 70 year old male who is very fit for my age - 5'9" and weigh 145. I hike, ski, and "ride" an indoor bike 5 days a week, getting my heart rate up in excess of 150 beats per minute. My resting heart rate is usually in the low 50s. I have been using the Wahoo System app and a Polar heart rate monitor to track my indoor exercise and monitor calories burned and heart rate. I use the Pacer app to track my hikes and calories burned. I use the Lose It app on my phone to track daily caloric intake and expenditures. I know exactly how many calories I burn daily.
I purchased the Apple Watch Series 8 because I thought it would help me to track my calorie expenditure more easily, without the need to pull my phone out of my pocket during hikes and for skiing. I found the watch and app to provide supposed calorie burn information that has been totally ridiculous and wildly inaccurate.
Despite recalibrating and resetting the app according to Apple's instructions, I still get ridiculous readings. For example, today in the Pacer app I have recorded 1.1 miles of walking, but the app which I integrated with the phone is telling me I burned 426 calories walking. That's a ridiculous figure for a short amount of walking. The fitness app told me I burned 356 calories riding my indoor bike this morning for 53 minutes. I know this is an incorrect figure because I have data for three years of workouts and this amount of time on the bike only burns 195 calories.
I am extremely disappointed with the Apple Fitness app and will not renew my subscription to it unless I can find a fix for its inaccurate calculations.
