You can try these steps (even though you have a 3rd generation):

If your AirPods Pro (1st generation) make crackling or static sounds - Apple Support

If you still experience sound quality issues—

Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
Make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store.
Contact Apple Support.
