Backing up with Time machine backup

If I back up my IMAC to a time Machine backup, can I then purchase a Mac book pro and copy what's on the time machine backup? Im travelling and will not have my iMac with me

Yes you can set up a new Mac with time machine.



The most trouble free way to move to a new machine, is using the Setup Assistant on the initial boot of a brand new machine— you have one shot here. Set up your MacBook Pro - Apple Support


The second best way is use the Migration Assistant.
