How to delete iMac iPhoto duplicates and no recent photos are shown on the iMac taken by iPhone or shared to iPhone in last 5 weeks

On my iMac OS Ventura 13.1 iPhotos Version 8.0 (531.0.100) I have 2961 Duplicate Photos & 11 Duplicate videos. On the Duplicate Photos window I see a "Merge 2 items" option printed in blue. On the Photo Library window I do not have any recent or shared photos from my iPhone X iOS Version 16.2 since Jan. 18, 2023. The last Duplicate photos were dated April 2, 2022.

What is my best option to solve these issues?

Thank you for any and all assistance in this matter.

Once your iMac is up to date as Trish313 suggested, let us know what status shows up at the bottom of the "All Photos" view on your iMac and on your phone. Together, they may help us understand why it seems syncing between your devices is stalled. Also, how do the counts match each other and the counts on iCloud.com?

Not seeing any recent duplicate items is not necessarily troubling. There is no particular reason why new ones should accumulate. Were you expecting new ones?

You says you see a "Merge 2 items" option printed in blue. You should actually see one of those offered for each pair of duplicate items (and "Merge 3 items: for sets of three, etc.). If you want to merge more than one set at a time, you have to select the sets you want to manage; the "select items" button will become a "Merge 5 items" button (or however many you chose).

Hi JLdraw,

The first step you'll want to take is going to be getting your devices up to date. Updates contain bug fixes that can help your device to behave as expected.

The latest version of macOS Ventura is currently macOS 13.2.1. Check out how to update here: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support

1. From the Apple menu  in the corner of your screen, choose System Settings or System Preferences.
If you chose System Settings, click General on the left side of the window. Then click Software Update on the right.
If you chose System Preferences, click Software Update in the window.
2. Software Update then checks for new software.
If Software Update finds new software, click the button to install it. The button might be named Update Now, Upgrade Now, Install Now, or Restart Now, for example. You might then be asked to enter your administrator password.
If Software Update says that your Mac is up to date, then no new software is currently available for your Mac model. Software Update shows only software that is compatible with your Mac.

The latest iOS is currently iOS 16.3.1. Check out how to update your iPhone here: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support.

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. Tap Install Now.

Once up to date, you can confirm if the photos are syncing as expected.

Have a good one!
