how do I get rid of a buzzing sound that others hear when i am on facetime or zoom?

When i am on facetime or zoom, the person on the other hand hears a loud buzzing sound and i have to hang up.

How do i get rid of this?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

Based on what you've described, it sounds like there may be a microphone issue. To help us confirm this, and to further isolate the issue if it is not the microphone, we'd like to offer the following troubleshooting steps:


  1. See if the issue occurs in a new user account: Add a user or group on Mac - Apple Support
  2. If you're using an external microphone (such as a USB- or Bluetooth-connected microphone or headset), see if the issue occurs with the internal microphone.
  3. If the issue is occurring with the internal microphone and you have not checked an external one, please see if it persists with a headset or other external microphone.
