and then the copy stops every time I try, I have tried recovering to various different disks, it's always the same. There is no way I can recover my files because of this conflict, therefore all my files are lost when I need them most, can't believe how amateur Apple is and I am having a hard time accepting my 5tb timemachine drive is useless as nothing can be recovered in any way.

Time Machine is great when it works, not so much when it does not.

Many times it only takes once, a catastrophic failure like yours before adapting the backup religion...
