Why does my child have the option to remove himself from the family??? If I turn screen time off this is an option that should never be available!

why does my 13 year old have the option to remove himself from the family if screen time is turned off!!! Apple needs to fix this ASAP!

Tip and question about signing out of device I discovered that if you are the parent over a child’s account, then you can turn off screen time not on the device but from the family account and as the parent guardian you turn off screen time. This will allow you to sign out of the device. unfortunately, Apple is set up a mechanism that does not allow you to sign out of the device unless screen time is turned off, I’m curious if anyone has any tips on family accounts and family sharing for children that are under 10 years old and I’m trying to limit screen time to 45 minutes on Apple TV and iPad.

Apple removed Screentime for kids 13 and up Screentime suddenly stopped working for my 13 year old's phone. I can no longer limit apps or have downtime kick it - now it just shows me the ridiculous amount of hours logged if I don't physically remove the phone. I called Apple and apparently screentime no longer works when a kid turns 13. This is the absolute worst age to have no ability to limit useage. They need it to be in touch with friends and make plans but if the phone isn't taken away, they often can't turn it off and log endless hours on TikTok etc. The Apple rep told me they are only considered kids from age 0-12. Then at 13 since they are allowed their own apple id there is no longer any way for a parent to limit useage without physically taking the phone. This is so frustrating! Does anyone know why Apple changed this? It worked for my older kids - this is a new thing.

Screen time Limit can be ignored by child I have 2 children set-up under family with screen time limits. Since my daughter has a new phone, her screen time allows her to “ignore limit” and click to ignore it “all day” and this have unlimited access. this has enabled her to be up late at night on her phone. I checked all settings and they are all the same as her brother. this is a huge issue as it means none of the safety features for her are working. I’ve also read on other threads this has happened to other parents and no response from apple. YES I have it setup to BLOCK at downtime. I have turned on/off devices. nothing works :( so parents don’t realise some kids are not safe

It sounds like your child can leave your Family Sharing. We know how important having working parental controls is for you, and we will help get you to the right place for answers.

It is possible that their date of birth is incorrect with their Apple ID and it needs to be updated. You can follow the steps in this support article to fix it: Update the birth date associated with your Apple ID
