Installer task hangs when asking for permission

Installer hangs when asking for permission to access the filesystem. Message appears asking for permission but neither choice is active. The window will not go away and is unresponsive. To get rid of it I must go to "Activity Monitor," find the task "user notification" and kill it. Unfortunately the Installer makes no further progress. If I manually set up paths in the filesystem for the application files, the application opens and seems to run normally. My guess is that a .plist is corrupted. This is a new Apple silicon system and I migrated files from an Intel MacPro. Big mistake!

What steps were required to get Topaz to installer? That may provide some clues for us. Also, are these third party apps fully supported in Ventura and are you using the most recent version of these apps? macOS includes lots of new security features and you may need to configure those security features to allow an app to access certain locations and devices.

Are you using any anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, or third party security software? If so, then these apps do interfere with the normal operation of macOS and could be the source of the problem. Plus these types of apps are not needed on a Mac, so if these are installed, then uninstall them by following the developer's instructions. You can try booting into Safe Mode to see if the apps will install since Safe Mode prevents the automatic launching of third party software during boot & login. If you want us to check out the Mac's configuration, run EtreCheck and post the report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper.

I believe my problem would go away if I could do a "clean install" of just the Ventura Installer.

I would first try Safe Mode, and I would also try @bailier's suggest for testing with another macOS user account.

If you want to perform a clean install of macOS, then you have several options if you have an Apple Silicon Mac:

When using the first two options, you will need erase the drive by using the instructions in this Apple article (also included in the "Recovery Mode" article linked above. The third option does all the setup automatically, but I don't know what OS it will put on the Mac (original factory OS, or the latest supported OS).

Hey there Harold Abbott,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. To get started, on your previous Mac that you transferred the apps from, are you using the same macOS version as your new Mac Studio? If not, it is possible that you may need to completely remove and reinstall the apps to ensure that you have the most compatible version of the app available.

For more details and steps that can help with troubleshooting this issue, take a look at this link here: If an app on your Mac stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support

1. Quit and reopen the app
Quit the app, then open it again. If the app won't quit, force the app to quit. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

2. Restart your Mac
Restart your Mac. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

3. Check for updates
To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, then click Updates. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your Mac. Or if you didn't get the app from the App Store, look for updates to the app on the app developer's website. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

4. Reinstall the app
Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. If you didn't get the app from the App Store, redownload the app on the app developer's website. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

Keep us updated on the results.

Take care!

Hello Harold Abbott,

Thanks for the update. If you continue to experience this issue, we suggest trying in a different user account. This will help to isolate the problem to your account or the macOS system.

You can find steps for doing so here: Add a user or group on Mac - Apple Support

Should the issue occur there as well, we suggest you contact Apple Support. They'll be able to look into this with you further.

Have a great day.

I hope this makes sense.
