iTunes Match not working

I tried subscribing to iTunes Match yesterday in the hopes of accessing my library of local files without taking up the storage space on my phone.

The Problem

iTunes progresses quickly through "gathering information about the library" and then goes quickly through trying to match in the iTunes store (without matching anything). Then the "uploading" step starts. The number of songs to upload keeps going up, beyond what is in my music library. As in, the message says

Uploading to iCloud Music Library

x of y: Song Name

x is increasing, but y is increasing as well, and y is also going up above the number of songs I even have on my computer. Then it just stops and nothing at all is uploaded or matched.

What I've Tried

  • Restarting the computer
  • Logging in and out of my Apple ID in iTunes
  • Turning iTunes Match on and off in iTunes Preferences
  • Trying to "add this computer" to iTunes Match again through the iTunes store
  • Reinstalling/updating iTunes

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Windows, Windows 6

Thank you again for your response.

I'm using my ISP's DNS, and not using a VPN. However, I noticed that my antivirus program came with a VPN - it requires an extra subscription which I don't have, but the VPN was automatically installed with the other software (I guess to try and nudge people to pay that extra fee). I uninstalled the VPN, then Genius got set up pretty quickly!

At this point, the Match was still not working though.

I added an exception for iTunes to my antivirus. Now I'm trying the matching process again. It has been on the "matching" step for a few hours, so hopefully I will see progress when I check back later.

iTunes 12.12.7.1 on Windows 11

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it twice.

It took a while on "Waiting for Apple to deliver your Genius results," and the Genius screen changed to a message "This seems to be taking longer than usual..." Then it stopped and I got an error message:

Genius results can't be updated right now. An unknown error occurred (4007).

Do you know if there's a way I could try the matching process with a smaller segment of my library, for example, just one album that would be available for matching and one that would have to be uploaded?
