My phone was stolen and I marked it as lost via Find my iPhone. However, I got a text that my phone was unlocked using my original passcode and upon checking my devices on Find my iPhone, it is no longer one of them. How can I make sure that my data is secure?
How can I contact Apple directly to help me erase the iPhone

Apple doesn't erase the phone. Did you sign into your account via a link in the text message? IF you did you got scammed by the thief and gave them your info. change all your password immediately.
