Mini Speakers drop out although song keeps playing in Music

I have had Apple HomePod Mini speakers for a while (2 sets paired using Home App) and I am used to issues after software updates. However, after working pretty consistently following the latest update, my speakers are back to either not working at all or drop out around 9 seconds into a song on my iMac. The song keeps playing and the speaker shows as connected, but there is no sound coming from the speakers. Sometimes, returning to the start of the song or skipping to the next song restarts the playback sound, but then it eventually drops out. I have tried restarting, unpairing and then re-pairing the speakers, but I don't understand why they just won't work. BTW, this is in regards to my desktop Apple Music; everything works fine on my iPad Music App.

Has anyone else had this issue and more importantly, found a fix?

Thanks

Hi Bubba405,

We appreciate you reaching out to us. Also, thank you for providing us with a detailed description of the issue, and the steps you've performed.

We’d like to gather additional details that may help us be in a better position to assist you.

  2. Have you had the chance to check if you are using the recommended Wi-Fi settings? Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support

If you answer yes to both questions, test if the issue persists on a newly created user account.

  1. "Performing this step can help us identify if the issue is isolated to your user account.
  2. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Users & Groups  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  3. Click the Add Account button below the list of users on the right (you may be asked to enter your password.)
  4. Click the New Account pop-up menu, then choose a type of user.
  5. Enter a full name for the new user. An account name is generated automatically. To use a different account name, enter it now—you can’t change it later.
  6. Enter a password for the user, then enter it again to verify. Enter a password hint to help the user remember their password.
  7. Click Create User."

If you are experiencing the issue when signed in on a different user account, please check if the issue persists while on safe mode. Safe mode does a basic check of your startup disk, similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility.

Performing this step may help resolve the issue, or further isolate the issue.

Below is an article to help guide you through the process.

Take care!
