I just got a new macbook air. But can't find the nice landscape screensaver pictures? All I see are a few ugly color swirl options. What am I missing?

Hello almut113,

We understand you are asking about specific pictures to use with your screen saver for your Mac. There wouldn't be any system-specific landscape photos to use with the screen saver. You might mean the desktop wallpaper. First, here's our guide on changing the wallpaper: Customize the desktop picture on your Mac

In past macOS versions, there were system-default wallpapers using landscape photos. You may need to download them first to utilize.

  1. Open the Apple menu > System Settings.
  2. Click Wallpaper in the sidebar.
  3. Click 'Show All' in the category you wish to use (ex. Light & Dark Desktop).
  4. Scroll to the landscape photo you like.
  5. Click the cloud icon in the photo to download it to your system.

If you do mean the screen saver, start with our guide here: Use a screen saver on your Mac

  1. Open the Apple menu > System Settings.
  2. Click Screen Saver in the sidebar.
  3. You will need to choose a screen saver type that utilizes photos.
  4. Click 'Options...' in the top right.
  5. Click the drop-down for Source.
  6. You can choose either a folder that contains landscaper photos you want or your Photo Library if you have them there.
  7. Click OK.

There are not any system-default landscape pictures to use with your screen saver. You can add some you've saved, downloaded, or taken yourself to your Mac, then use them either with your screen saver or desktop wallpaper. If you have additional questions, reply back here.

Take care.

Hello almut113,

If you want to set custom options for the screen saver, select the Options button on the Screen Saver page in System Settings. In the Source drop-down menu select Choose Folder. From there navigate to wherever you have this "stunning landscape pictures" file/folder stored and select it, then select Choose at the bottom right. It will then use that as the source for your screen saver.

Cheers!

Thanks for this in-depth answer but I am not sure that I understand all of it. I am indeed talking about screensavers. My last Mac automatically showed a series of stunning landscape pictures when it went into screensaver mode. I have looked at the screensaver options on the m2 Ventura, but only see options that of how to display my own photos when in screensaver mode. I would really like those stunning landscape pictures back. Thanks very much for your help.
