No notice of OS update

I'm not getting any notice that a new OS update is available. Shouldn't there be a badge on the Settings icon? Here's my update settings.

Hello russf77,

If there is a new software update available for your device, you'll find that in Settings > General > Software Update.

It looks like the automatic download for updates is turned on, but not the automatic install, so yes if an update downloads you'll get a red dot on the Settings icon and then will need to go to Settings > General > Software Update to install it.

When you have the automatic download option enabled, keep in mind that Apple's servers gradually push the downloads out to the millions of devices in use. So for example, if Apple were to release a software update today, it may take a few days until it automatically downloads and you see the red dot on the Settings icon. If a software update is released and you want to immediately install it as soon as it's announced, you can always manually download and install it by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

Update your iPhone or iPad

Cheers!
