When I connect my camera (Sony ZV-1) to USB FCPX opens the Import window automatically. Normally I would select my camera in the "Cameras" section and clips would appear.
But currently, FCPX shows nothing.
The last time it worked, I selected a bunch of clips and press backspace or cmd-backspace to delete them.
Ever since then, FCPX refuses to show anything from that camera.
Please help, thanks.
What format did you shoot?
The application should not allow you to delete from the card. You might have to extract the video from the card, and you might lose some metadata as the database is probably compromised.
Post a screenshot of what you see inside the card in the Finder.
Solution recap:
1) format SD Card
2) delete FCPX preferences
3) camera now appears under "Devices" instead of "Cameras"
4) SD card contained nothing so I shot a small clip
5) camera now appears under "Cameras" again
Have been working with footage from a ZV-1 and ZV-1F, and haven't seen your issue.
Have you tried resetting FCP preferences, which is the usual first step when FCP begins to act unexpectedly?

In the meantime I have formatted the SD card (using the camera) and recorded something new, but still no clips appear in FCPX.
In addition to what Tom said: make sure that FCP has Full Disk Access in System Settings->Privacy & Security.
Full disk acces was disabled (it was set to files and folder on removable volumes) but now that it's enabled, there is no diffrence.
Does the card appear at all, under Cameras? Or does it appear under Devices?

Are you running FCP as a standard or an admin user?
The camera appears under “Cameras” and I can select it and eject it. When selected, no clips appear in the import window.
It is a Sony ZV-1 and I’m running as an admin user.
I've seen cameras NOT work and when the Card is connected through a reader or SD Card slot of your Mac (if it has one) it works OK.

Yeah but it has always worked through direct USB cable to the camera and nothing has changed in the setup or software versions or whatever. Also my Mac had no card reader :)
I have now deleted the FCPX preferences, and now it works again! Thanks!
