To manage your notification settings:

Use notifications on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Else: If you are using text-forwarding, you might want to turn that off:

Forward SMS/MMS text messages from your iPhone to your Mac or iPad - Apple Support

or

You might be using iCloud, so Messages from iPhone appear on iPad too.

if so you would need to turn off sharing iCloud Messages to iPad.

Try: Settings -> tap your Profile -> tap iCloud ->
