83y\o locked herself out of iPhone and no longer knows Apple ID/password

Hello,

I am hoping to get some help from this community. My mother in law locked herself out of her iPhone and no longer knows her Apple ID/Password. Nor do we know which email she set this up on! She recently moved into assisted living and her home was sold; so we are assuming info like this may have been purged.

If we venture to a true Apple Store with the phone, and my mother in law is NOT there, will they help us? Important to note we pay the bill through Verizon.

My mother in law is not able to travel due to her health. She is able to receive phone calls on the iPhone but cannot call out or text.

the other caveat here - we do not live close; so we would need to travel to her, get her phone, travel to the Apple Store which is 30 minutes away.

Can this situation be fixed in an Apple Store or will we be wasting our time and are better off just getting a new iPhone? HELP!!!

iPhone 12 Pro Max, iOS 16

Going to an Apple Store appointment isn’t necessary. Apple ID’s are in full control on the customers end.

You can help her by following the steps Apple provides at How to remove Activation Lock - Apple Support

That support page gives links to trying to find her Apple ID, then resetting the password once it is known.

If those options are unsuccessful then your last recourse is to follow “Start a support request“ on that same support pages.
