iPad vs iPhone messaging

Ipad set up with one email address, and iPhone set up with a different email address, the result is that if someone sends me a text I can only see it in one device, because of the different email addresses.......how can I set up the same email address on both devices? (Now it says: email is used by another device,so I can not replace it)

iPad, iPadOS 16

I am not sure if I understood entirely your response, but one think I probably misrepresented : What I am saying is not to use two different Apple IDs,but to erase the one on my phone and replace it by the one (and only ) Apple ID on my iPad.So,both devices will have the same Apple ID.So far I am trying to find out how to do that.

You very last line in parenthesis suggests what you tried to do was create a new Apple ID on the iPad, as signing in with the Apple ID from the iPad on the iPhone would not produce that message. Since you did not tell us exactly what you did when you got that message I assumed based on that.

To use the Apple ID from the iPad on the iPhone, you would need to sign in with it on the iPhone, not create a new one.

To Sign in with the Apple ID from the iPad on the iPhone as I said, you would need to go to Settings ➜ Messages ➜ Send & Receive ➜ Apple ID and sign out from there, and then sign in with the one used on the iPad. This will link messages from the iPhone and the iPad together.

If you want to use the Apple ID from the iPad for all the features on the iPhone, that is iCloud, Purchases and subscriptions, and FaceTime, you would need to sign in to the 3 other places with the relevant Apple ID.

On the iPhone:

Settings ➜ Account (top of settings) ➜ scroll to the bottom, Sign Out, then sign in with the Apple ID used on the iPad.

Settings ➜ Account ➜ Media & Purchases ➜ Sign Out

Settings ➜ FaceTime ➜ Caller ID ➜ Apple ID ➜ Sign Out.

That will then change the Apple ID on the iPhone to the new being used on the iPad and will link everything.

You cannot use the same email address for 2 different Apple IDs. Each Apple ID must have its now unique email address.

You would need to log out of the Apple ID that is used on the iPad, and log in with the one used on the iPhone.

If for any reason you need to keep the secondary Apple ID on the iPad for purchases and other iCloud separate to the one from the iPhone, you can replace the Apple ID logged in for Messages only in Settings ➜ Messages ➜ Send & Receive ➜ Apple ID for the one from the iPhone and leave the rest logged in to the current one.
