Why is my Ethernet slower than wifi on new Mac Mini M2 Pro?

I replaced my iMac 2012 with the new Mac Mini M2 Pro. I upgraded my internet provider so I could get the latest router and wifi technology, to the 1.5G Plan. The wifi on the Mac Mini is blazing fast, using the Ookla Speed Test, I can achieve 1.4G speeds. However, as soon as I plug in my new Cat 8 cable, the speed drops drastically to about 170Mbps. Sometimes it won't even connect to the internet.

I tried connecting the ethernet from the new router on my older iMac, and guess what...blazing speeds...up to 980Mbps.

What gives with the new Mac mini M2 Pro?

Hey jbraconnier,

You done a lot of upgrades, so we know you are wanting to see the internet connection speed on your Mac mini as it should be.

Have you made sure you've got the latest macOS update installed? Apple just released one earlier this week.

If the macOS is updated, and you still see the slow speeds, we recommend reaching out to Apple Support so they can look into this with you.

Good luck!
