The Fine Print:

You will need to have installed iOS 16

The message was deleted.....after......you installed iOS 16

The message was not deleted more than 30 days ago

If your iPhone 8 Plus is updated to iOS 16, you can usually find deleted messages in "Recently Deleted".

Open the Message app, tap Edit in the top left corner, and select "Show Recently Deleted" if the messages are gone from there, then unfortunately they are completely gone.
