Borderless printing issue

Hello,

I'm trying to transform a PDF with a portrait layout into a landscape layout, kind picture book style with each time the two pages side by side. These are the options I choose in the print window :

  • A4 borderless
  • Scale : 100%
  • Layout : 2 pages per sheet

Everything else follows the default settings. I then export to PDF.

Everything looks perfect in the preview (sheet view), but when it is exported as a PDF there are always white borders added.

I have the same problem whether I export the PDF from Microsoft Word, with the above options, or whether I export first as a normal (portrait A4) PDF and then do the following options to switch to landscape and reduce the page count.

If I export as a normal PDF with only 1 page per sheet, I do not get the added borders.

Thanks for your help.

Hi hibou_,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand that when you export a PDF via the print command, you see a white border but when you export a PDF from another app, you don't experience the same behavior.

Which app does the PDF file originate in?

If you're using an app that's not developed by Apple, you may consider reaching out to the app developer to investigate this behavior further with you. If you need help to locate an app developers contact information, you can follow the steps outlined here: How to contact an app developer - Apple Support

"Contact the developer of a macOS app

  1. Open the App Store on your Mac.
  2. Click the sign-in button  or your photo.
  3. A list of apps appears. Click the app that you want. If you can't find the app, use the search bar.
  4. The app's product page appears. Click Support or App Support. If you don't see Support or App Support, make sure that you're signed in with the correct Apple ID."

Kind regards.

Hello,

Unfortunately I have the same issue weather Printing to PDF from Preview or from Microsoft Word, so I understand that the bug is with the printer window, and how Apple exports files to PFDs.

As I mentioned, it looks perfect in the printer preview, but when it is exported as a PDF there are always white borders added.

The only way I have found to avoid the issue is to print to PDF using Google Chrome, which has its own printer window and thus avoids the bug.

Thanks for your help.

You are welcome hobo_,

We'd like to learn more so we know which direction to go with troubleshooting with you.

Have you checked to see if there are any updates for your printer when using with Mac?

Is it possible to take a screenshot of your printer settings (just the settings, no need to include the print preview).

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks for your reply.

As you can see from the screenshots, I am not changing the orientation in the print window ; I am selecting to print 2 pages per sheet, which puts them side by side (thus going into landscape mode ; but I do not need to select this option).

Also when I choose to print the entire image there is no scaling (image at 100%). If I click 100%, instead of print entire image, there is the same issue.
